| Scientific Name: Steatocranus casuarius |
| Common Name: African Buffalo Head Cichlid, African Lion Head Cichlid, African Block Head Cichlid, African Hump Head Cichlid, and African Bump Head Cichlid. |
| Origin: West Africa; The lower course of the Congo River and its Zaire tributaries, from the Malembo Pool to Matadi. |

| Water Conditions: Temperature of between 75-85F. A pH of between 5.0-8.0. Moderate hardness of between 15-17 dgh. |
| Diet: Herbivor; In their native habitat they eat small invertebrates and a minimal amount of algae. They should be offered plant based pellets or flakes, and Brine shrimp pellets or flakes. They will also eat most prepared fish foods. |

| Mature Size: Males get up to 16 cm. Females get up to 10 cm. |
| Sexual Dimorphism: Males are larger, have a pronounced fatty cranial hump and longer fins. Females are smaller and have a less conspicuous hump. |

| Personal Note: These fish are a great addition to any suitable tank. They are relatively calm and fairly easy to maintain as long as they are compatible with their tankmates. |
